I have a theory. Always go cheap. Nobody expects a single lot to go for

under a tenner (auctioneers will put them in multiple lots - if they'll take them at all). Expensive lots are nearly always overvalued by the dealers, they want top retail.
You can get lucky of course. My favourite was the £25 tea cosy that went for £250.
Mind you, if you sell at Anita Manning's Glasgow auction you're guaranteed a profit. God knows what's going on there.
