I've read you're getting into running so

get yourself a Garmin or similar with satellite recording. Anything that motivates exercise is fine by me but a fitness tracker isn't what you want to improve your running. If you buy a Garmin with a chest strap HRM that will offer you the best tool to help you improve. Measuring heart rate over accurate distance recording will give you a better indication of fitness improvement. The optical HRM on trackers are notoriously inaccurate and obviously step recording will never be as accurate as satellite distance. I've got a Garmin 910XT which is designed for triathlon but a very simple version with a chest strap would be a good starting point.
