The rush was to avoid c**ts like Villa coming in an gazumping us once it

became clear that we were in the box seat to buy McCormack. I think that was why as things dragged on people got more twitchy about the whole deal because this was kind of foreseeable.

I take the point about McCormack not being the be all and end all and hopefully if we do miss out we will just slap down £8m of the money on Assombalonga or someone similar although what you or I think is a bit irrelevant as the point is he was clearly Neil's number one target.
