Is Neil able to organise/train a defence?

Has been a common theme throughout his tenure and although it's only pre-season it's started the same way.

The fact Whitaker gets dropped entirely from the squad last season but then starts today (suggesting he appears to be ahead of Pinto (until today) for the right back birth) is strange and does not suggest the manager has a clear vision of his first choice back four. I remain confident for the season but it feels like we are a couple of games short in pre season. The first team line up have barely played together.
