I think you're missing my point

I don't think it's in doubt that they followed a warped version of Islam. My point was that if as originally reported they were shouting "Daesh, Daesh", they probably weren't actually connected to that group, because it hates that name, though doubtless they wanted to be and for sure Daesh would claim (and indeed has claimed) "credit".

No-one's said it's not a despicable act or that those perpetrating it were not following an absurd misreading of Islam.
