Why ignore the people here?

Because there aren't campaigners outside County Hall campaigning for the homeless to be assisted with housing etc.

It might be a bit of a cynical view, although perhaps not, but politicians and councillors will normally do what the electorate want as it wins votes.

Moral being, if you believe in a cause then fight for it - clearly plenty in this country, and indeed county, believe that we should be open to accepting Syrian refugees.
