I'd've thunk high-concept sci-fi like that, you'd want to pause every now and again, at least until you're acquainted with the rules of the universe/society depicted, for a bit of a think, maybe go back an read a passage again from a few pages ago, make sure you're getting it right.

Banks' Feersum Ennjin would be a complete waste as an audio book.
