Mine fought in Mesopotamia against the Turks

... which, in the great scheme of things, probably wasn't quite so bad, although he never talked about it. He was in the Royal Field Artillary, and spent several months sailing there and back, around the Cape of Good Hope. Much of the trip spent feeding and looking after the horses, which, as a farmer's boy suited him.
