...and our media are particuarly simplistic (lazy) in the way they analyse games

"look at this great pass for the goal", "look at this great tackle" etc. So rarely "look at the way the central midfielders are making runs off the ball, creating space" or whatever. Those rare moments when we get an overseas pundit who actually talks about that stuff makes you realise what we miss.

Would guess that relentless focus on tv on a small number of game-changing moments, rather than shape, tactics etc, must sharpen the incentives to save our energy and try the spectacular rather than do the quietly effective stuff.
