Q: Why is Hoddle held in such high regard as a manager?

His club record is very meh post Swindon(!) and his international record consists solely of getting us knocked out in the last 16 of a major tournament (like we just have here).
And yet I frequently hear people discussing him as though it is a given that he is a good manager. I'm genuinely intrigued as to why.
