I understand that you have voted resoundingly for "change" and that this is a great day. You really have achieved something. Let's see what exciting changes you can now expect down the line.
- the rolling back of worker rights as we need a ?flexible labour market? to compete.
- loss of quality manufacturing jobs as multinationals switch investment away from us to the EU.
- loss of numerous highly paid head office jobs, as multinationals/major corporations relocate.
- extended slow down in domestic and inward investment given a period of at least 2 years of great uncertainty, with resulting loss of jobs.
- as a result of the above lower pensions as stock prices fall.
- as a result of the above more austerity and cut backs to basic services (NHS and education) as tax take reduces and our still delicate aggregate debt position requires us to balance the budget.
- as a result of the above a weaker pound making imported food more expensive (we import circa 40% of our food).
- as a result of the above a weaker pound making petrol/diesel more expensive.
- as a result of the above a weaker pound and hence higher gas/electricity.
- as a result of the need to make good on immigration promises, shortage of unskilled labour currently performing jobs no local will take (in agriculture, in the NHS)
And while we're at it
- a weaker pound making holidays more expensive.
- forthcoming need to apply for a visa when you want to go on holiday.
But it?s alright isn?t it? Because the common working people are sure to be protected from all this by Johnson, Gove and Farage. They?ve spent their political careers protecting the rights of the underprivileged haven?t they? Rather than advocating rather extreme right wing, free market, small state, minimum social safety net principles to the direct detriment of those people.
What? Oh.
Oh yes, change is coming, my working class friends. And its going to be a right old barrel of laughs. Feel free to laugh it up now and celebrate this "great day for democracy". You have been sold a pub, at least 20 years in the making, by this country's ultra right wing press and a collection of liars. Let's see how funny it seems in a year or so.
