Have you heard of input and output legitimacy?

Lower earners suffer from a lack of output legitimacy - for years, whichever political decisions they've made have resulted in depressed wages and austerity. This has led to a disengagement from politics, until a populist c**t called Nigel started telling them they can improve their lot by voting out of the EU because they're unelected, faceless bureaucrats (not true but that's irrelevant to my argument). But this is an appeal to input legitimacy - democratic choices rather than pounds in your pocket - and it'll actually have the opposite effect. This is not some magnificent demonstration of democratic will by the people, it's a con trick.
