Boris said that the British public hire politicians to take the difficult decisions for th

em, and that this was the most difficult decision. So what he was implying is that there should not have been a referendum, only a vote in Parliament. And to some extent he's right - your typical MP may not be great but he/she will be better informed than 95% of the electorate. The big bonus of this referendum is that it's shown the High Command what conditions are really like on the battlefield.
