I speak from the experience of my own family.

Nearly all of them voted for leave (either because of the EU making all our laws or immigrants taking over). They did no research to find out if those beliefs were founded. Nothing. Because they couldn't be arsed (that's exactly what they said). So they voted based on what they were told by the campaigns, not by going out and verifying if what they heard was true.

I can't even begin to imagine how many others were the same.
