much better than dogs though

cats have style and grace and a bit of independent dignity. What you describe as "no loyalty" means that they spend time with you because they want to (and all three of ours are very affectionate).

Dogs on the other hand are filthy and slobber everywhere. And are so gormlessly 'loyal' that they will be devotedly attached even to owners who treat them like s**t. So in practice their undignified loyalty is worthless because being dumb pack animals they'd give it to absolutely anyone.
