on the trade deals, protections, scientific and cultural infrastructure we had in this mythical state.

I'm a Remainer because starting from where we actually are, remaining a member makes a whole lot more sense than leaving. That doesn't mean I blindly follow "We-Must-Be-Part-Of-The-EU" as some kind of mantra, though, and I'm opposed to being part of "ever-closer union", was always against us joining the Euro (not that anyone is suggesting that these days), and for defence NATO is where we sit, not as part of some EU force.
