They tend to be

part of a larger trading bloc, e.g.
African Union (AU)
Union of South American Nations (USAN)
Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
Central American Integration System (SICA)
Arab League (AL)
European Free Trade Association (EFTA)
Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC)
Which is why, to compete on a level footing we need to do the same.
