Who is deemed not good enough to open and isn't in great county form is the right option for number three. In fairness he dug in quite well at the start of the SA tour and we needed that.

I think (as Root falls) it's perhaps a sign that Bayliss still doesn't trust several of our top order so wants a player in there that he perceives as more steady.
