But nether of their top divisions are close to elite level. He's flopped in England, France and Spain where the standards are a lot higher, but looked a good player in the other two countries. It can't be a coincidence.

It was possibly largely down to lazy and naive scouting, plus a lack of general long term planning in terms of building a side with players who had attributes that would suit the team.
