better than having a load of debt and getting relegated though

if everyone racked up tons of debt and overspent on players three of them would still get relegated. Newcastle spent ?90m last summer and over ?25m on two England internationals in January and they're still going down. At least being debt free puts you in a good position to come back up if it happens - if you go down with debt you run the risk of being the next Bolton/Fulham/Blackburn etc. Or in fact us after the 2005 relegation. We don't have a rich owner's bailout funds available if it goes tits up.
It's not the obvious decision some people make out. It's a very difficult one.
