Is your experience of the FDs of large corporate groups?

Or SMEs? Because I would say they are very different.

Anyone that has made it to be the FD of a FTSE business is a very successful individual, and doesn't happen without very strong commercial and leadership skills.

Some will be risk averse, others will not be.

You're also confusing two different things. The role of the FD is to manage the finances, that's not to say that an accountant that is the CEO will undertake that role solely considering the finances.

I'm also not sure accountants are trained to balance the books. I certainly wasn't. I was trained to understand financial information and the implications of decisions, I wasn't trained to be risk averse.
