The problem isn't even James vs Green for me...

It's the simple fact that the #1 is injured, and none of the potential #3 keepers (Green, Kirkland, Carson) has a single cap. The #2 (James) is a well known, experienced international about whom the manager will learn very little in these two games.

What happens if Robinson is still injured and James hurts himself playing up front for Man City just before the next qualifier? We play a keeper with no experience or recall Ian Walker/Nigel Martyn. Sven is simply an idiot. Whether it's Green or not is not the point. England ought to be seeing if any of the potential #3 keepers is up to it in games like this.

You can use the "big name to draw the crowd" argument for Beckham and Owen, but not for David James.
