yes, but not neccesarily due to sporting reasons - see the Monaco Grand Prix for example

usually a piss poor race but the biggest ticket there is in the calendar just because it is the place to be seen

(this isn't really related to the men vs women prize money debate but just find it odd that some comments i've seen on this are tending to link ticket demand to how interesting/exciting an event is to actually watch, or how skillful it is)
