twenty or so years ago I thought my relatively new car was running a bit slow. "No problem", I think, "I'll adjust the points a bit". Only to discover that cars don't have points any more. The more time has gone on, the less I know what I'm looking at when I open the bonnet. These days I can just about change a bulb, a wheel or the battery; top up the oil, brake, coolant or windscreen fluid; change a wiper blade. Literally anything else I now have to pay someone to do it.
