And then to ensure resources are there to deliver on that strategy and the short, medium and long term goals.
If the primary goal is PL football then it's his role to ensure everything is in place to achieve it. If it's to be a financially solvent business, ditto.
In some ways the fact that people are even questioning his role and value demonstrates a certain failing in the communication of that strategy to stakeholders (ie us).
I suspect in part the reason is that there is a good chunk of the fanbase that wants PL football above all else (and doesnt understand why were not throwing money at it, sacking managers, etc etc), and any strategy short of that isn't going to play well.
