So much old pony about "results are all that matter, playing well is irrelevant".

Think of it as a graph v time. Good performances as a higher level straight line, bad ones at a lower level. Now add in the noise factors (refs, injuries, cheating, luck, Vardy's toes etc.) & the nice straight lines bounce up & down - & start crossing over.

There's nothing you can do about that. Nothing.

HOWEVER, theory states that, given sufficient time, the noise cancels. BUT is 38 games sufficient? I would argue that it probably isn't. FURTHERMORE a run of 10 games or so is unquestionably insufficient, but fans do not believe this. Lose 3 games in a row & their team is utter garbage & in freefall.
it is true that continuing to benefit from uncontrolled factors will boost a team's confidence, while persistent losses while playing well can undermine a team's morale. That is when the true character of manager & players is tested

PLEASE NOTE that I am not arguing that we have had an unfair share of uncontrollable factors against us. What I am saying is that when we play as on Saturday we have a far better chance of winning games. If we play as we did against Villa we won't.

So it's simply this; play well & you have a better chance of winning. You may still lose, but that's down to uncontrollable factors. To suggest otherwise is basically superstition.
