Obviously very sad that he's passed away

And my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

I have always wondered however how he got a position on the board of the FA. He has overseen, as chairman of Bolton, a club going further and further into debt. Think it's over ?100 million currently. Not exactly the type ofnglowing reference for his credentials as an FA board member in my eyes. Not to mention he tried to make the premier league a closed shop when Bolton were in it which was hardly in the interests of all 92 league clubs.

When you add in the fact that David Sheepshanks, a man who oversaw Ipswich's procession into administration, is also so highly regarded on the FA board you have to ask the question "are these people the best available to be running the game or is it simply a jobs for the boys approach to appointing members"?
