it's because nearly everyone else is stronger too

Lambert's Prem year there was still a load of the northern strugglers on borrowed time with their half empty stadiums (Bolton/Blackburn/Wigan) plus Wolves (basically a version of us economically) and the total basket cases that are QPR.

Nearly everyone in the Prem now is loaded and/or very well run so there aren't as many soft targets.
