That's why there's instant assessment - because of where the team is suddenly sliding towards. The speed with which the bottom has dropped out is incredible.

Equally, messageboards being messageboards, there's instant assessment in the other direction when things are going well too, eg. "Mbokani is sex"; or "please don't get another 'keeper in, Rudd is sound". It's just the nature of these things.

Football clubs have never been more trigger happy than they are nowadays - but the stakes are so high in modern football that they have to be. Fans are conditioned by that, naturally so. My personal view is if, as I fear there is, there's a genuine fitness/conditioning problem in the squad, we've gone already and will lose most games between now and May. If that happens, it's hard to see how AN could survive given how angry/depressed the fans will get.

I hope to goodness I'm wrong on that. I'm just stunned by how rapidly we've fallen away.
