But he showed how tactically aware he was and how great a manager he could be in the future.
However i do think everyone calling him sir alex neil was premature as he took the best team in championship and got them playing again.
Thats exactly what paul lambert did in league one, only difference is he improved and got us up out of the championship and kept us in prem.
Alex neil probably wont keep us up this season but i'd hate to lose him because we are in the toughest league in the world where we were expected to go down and we do go down when you think about how newcastle have outspent the bundesligue, how do we cope with that. What is the alternative? Get an established premiership manager? How many of those are out there? Hoots was manager of newcastle in premiership, redknapp would bankrupt us, i just cant see who can come in and turn this around.
However i must admit this villa team was nothing special, we had ?30 million pound on pitch, villa are resolved to going down (transfer window showed that) and we didnt trouble them, their defenders are s**t scared of pace so we didnt bother with jarvis, redmond, bring murphys back or rewind time and unsell bennett. Yes that was tactically flawed and im amazed AN couldnt see that! Team looked scared to concede so sat back, asked for trouble and.... Conceded.
If we do go down i think it could go either way, mulling around champs for years having lost best players ala mid-90's and after worthy relegation with all prem teams coming down with new tv money or the f.a youth team could finally fill the gaps missing from players we sell and with the three development players we have bought maybe thats already the planning.
Im off out tonight for a 40th but i can tell you this has been one of worst weeks of my life which started with my wifes gran dying on monday, major issues at work, flat tyre, lost money on man city, norwich losing and now f**king Asda shop that was due before we went out has been cancelled -arghhhh
