I think it's the midfield that is weaker now rather than the defence.

Surman, fox and pilkington all had a good range of passing. Jarvis is probably equivalent to pilkington, albeit he's been injured, but we miss players such as surman and particularly fox.

Wasn't our defence tierney, Barnett / Whittaker, Bennett / Martin, Naughton? Naughton was good, I wouldn't want any of the others now.

Things went wrong the following season when the midfield was changed and our creativity and fluidity was gone.
