Eg I'm looking at 2 bottles of the same medicine for my daughter. one from brand A, 300ml bottle from local pharmacy, 3 month use by date.
the other, brand B, 100mls bottle from local hospital, 1 month use by date.
same medicine and strength in each case.
according to the prescribing doctor in each case, one costs the NHS ?50 and the other costs ?300. I'll give 3 guesses as to which one is which...
suppliers will charge what they can get away with. a joined up procurement strategy would deliver much better value to the NHS.
