But basically connecting with disenfranchised poor white people, cf UKIP, on the basis not of rationalism or hope but division and prejudice - picking out the eternal untermensch and blaming them for people feeling left out/left behind.
His playbook is straight out of Goebbels (if you don't believe me, you haven't read what Goebbels wrote/said).
The political elite in America as here must take its share of the blame for this. Washington, as Westminster, inhabits a bubble entirely distant from the lives of most of its citizens. The American version is more detached, more religiously fundamental, and more armed than anything we see here but the gist is the same.
Sadly I don't think he'll meet UKIP's fate at the polls, though I don't think he will make it all the way to the White House. Whoever does needs to do a better job of reconnecting the government to the people it serves than has been done in the past few decades by either party. Someone over here might think about that too.
