You're right

and for a good part of the game it worked. It's not a managerial error when one of your most experienced players hits a backpass like that one. The simple fact is that we don't have the strength in depth - so remove GON and Tettey and we let ghouls in. If they'd been available on Saturday we would have won or at least drawn. No amount of managerial skill can turn players who are not quite good enough into players who will win consistently .... It's why the richer clubs come higher in the league pretty much every year. Saturday was not a disaster - a loss to Liverpool - not hugely unexpected. What we discovered is that McNaisy is a great buy, and will win us games - including by his influence and his ability to bring out the best in others. Get Tettster off his sick bed; man up; we'll finish in 14th ....
