You've hit the nail on the head.

I don't know what Olsson has done wrong to warrant being left out. It's the lack of leadership that's a real concern. Russell Martin has never struck me as a natural captain; seems far too quiet and has made far too many errors yet has somehow convinced successive managers to keep playing him. I thought Gary O'Neill might be a natural leader but his ill-discipline at Stoke was a real let down. Perhaps Naismith. Only played one game but you sense he's very well respected by the rest of the players.
