Because Martin is more skilful (it's relative, I know), and Liverpool play a pressing game

putting pressure on defenders. Unfortunately, the down side is that Martin isn't great at tackling or blocking. I said I understood the decision, not that I agreed with it. The whoie central defence is a bit of a comb-over - filling in one gap creates others.
