Tettey and O'Neil weren't available. Mulumbu is more of a box to box player, but has struggled to get a game for reasons that we don't know. Don't forget that he had a bad injury at the start of the season. We were linked to Jedinak for a good reason, as we are short in that position.
Regardless, today's set up took us to 3-1 today. A more defensive mf doesn't suddenly make Martin and Pinto become great at marking. It doesn't stop Martin making a stupid blind back pass. It doesn't prevent awful defending from a set piece. It's such a lazy 2+2=5 way of thinking to suggest that an unavailable defensive midfield stops those types of errors. Not everything is a "tactical error".
There's a fair argument that Neil choosing Martin was a terrible choice. Neil needs to explain why Bennett couldn't play today.
Some will argue that Olsson should start ahead of Brady at left back. Maybe those people have forgotten how poor Olsson was at left back. The bigger issue is that we need to sign another left back.
That was my issue with buying Naismith. He's clearly a good player and will improve us goals wise, but ultimately it doesn't matter if we keep making silly defensive errors. Our squad is very poor in terms of quality and depth in a number of positions.
