It's truly awful.

I was never a huge fan of any of them but, even so, episodes 1 to 3 are inexcusably bad. Obviously I enjoyed 4 to 6 when I was a kid but was never really attached to them and don't feel the need to ever watch them again. I quite enjoyed the new one though, despite all its faults.
