Ruddy, on his day, could be excellent. There was a time when he was consistently brilliant

The problem is that competition in the goalkeeper position has always been lacking for us. None of our managers before Neil were prepared to risk an inexperienced youth team goalkeeper, either in the Premier League or a highly competitive Championship where every point is essential. As a result, it must have been easy for Ruddy to take his position for granted if it was never under threat and, without that competition, he must have lacked the motivation to up his game.
