Ed Balls' acceptance speech the election before last, when he narrowly avoided losing the seat he did lose last time, was one of the more graceless acceptance speeches I've seen. His concession speech last year was much better.
He's spiky, but well connected and certainly bright enough to do the job well. Former colleagues generally speak highly of him, which I think is a good sign.
He is City through and through which makes a huge difference, at least to me: the job remains the same, but football success ultimately means more than building the balance sheet (though you can't do one without the other, really) and I'm pleased that someone who genuinely cares about us as a Football Club not just an economic entity is in the Chair.
