There's a big world of players out there, and the expansion of the EU means we can sign far more players without a work permit. You can get better quality players for less money from abroad. OK, you might end up with Kozma or Balaban but you might get Gera, Kinkladze, Todorov, Rasiak etc.

It's ridiculous to just assume that if you buy British it's safer - for every Ashton there's a Beckford, for every McVeigh there's a Cottee, for every Fleming there's a Kevin Scott. It's no more risky to sign from abroad - it's just seems like more of a gamble to sign someone who's not played in England before.

As opposed to signing Andy Hughes or Graham Stuart, whom everyone knew full well would be f**king crap.
