I can't see why it's not cut and dry, it was a toe PUNT. Maybe

I'm too set in my ways but when we were kids a poke of any kind (steady) was reserved for a tap over the line. The toe punt was a purposeful shot a goal with the toe end of one of your feet. It was predominantly used by kids who could hardly kick a ball or, in the case of the brilliant Alex Tettey, used to disguise one's shot as a mishit whilst sending the keeper the other way. Case closed me thinks.
