After years and years of pissing around near the foot of the second tier or worse, in came Gary Megson. Who dragged them through sheer force of personality first to the top 6, then the top 2.
Of course, his way couldn't work in the Prem with a squad which had over-achieved hugely to get there. But they stayed patient, he took them back up... then they sacked him when they needed to.
They remained a yo-yo club, but changed style gradually: from Robson to Mowbray to di Matteo... and got the timing of RDM's dismissal absolutely bang on. Now, after all that development, Hodgson took them at last to a new level.
Three managers later, under Pulis now, the football is awful - but their fans aren't complaining much. Why is that? Ours seem to get bored, frustrated, then angry much more quickly. I think we have to learn from them tbh.
