Why would you buy a family home as a second place?

Sorry, I don't understand that.

It's also not a big cost overall. Say you're spending ?300k. The additional ?9k of stamp duty, spread over a 10 year investment is ?900 per annum.

Say you're receiving rent of ?1100 a month, ?900 per year reduces the yield by 0.03%. Not a big deal.

It hurts short term investors and I've got no problem with that.
