Not sure what they can do?

I'm reminded of the kidnapping of the Soviet embassy attaches in Lebanon back in the 80s by Hezbollah. One was executed so the Russians cut negotiations and got the KGB in on the game. A few weeks later the 3 remaining guys were released.

Seemingly, after the first set of testacles were received in the post, the Hezbollah leaders didn't fancy having more of their family members castrated and executed by KGB agents. (Now that may be apocryphal but who knows...)

Even leaving aside the very public air strikes that have passed you by, I'd be wary of assuming that the Russians are doing nothing.
