Do we as a club hang on to players too long

Don't get me wrong I am all for players who love playing for our club but for instance I get the feeling we as a club reward those that are polite and don't rock the boat rather than those that are genuinely gifted and driven. Take for example Howson, for many a year our fans have rated him as a good footballer with technical ability, but is he really? Not at this level he isn't. The same could be said of Martin, lovely bloke who wants our club to do well but ultimately not good enough. I know we harp on about our little old Norwich attitude but it most definitely exists.
