Gascoigne wasn't at peak fitness, but when was he?!

No idea if Gascoigne was 'drunk' in 1998, but Beckham has said he was shocked by Gazza being left out - this was not a player who was unpickable. Le Tiss's career was also ended by Hoddle.

It was a good, pragmatic, well-organised side - but, like Sven and then Capello, Hoddle failed to make the most out of England's more creative players (pretty ironic, really).
