Happy Mental Health Awareness Day to you too, and indeed to all

I'm in two minds - see what I did there? - about how open to be about my own mental health, which as has probably been realised isn't great. I have a major depressive disorder (have had for decades, the drugs work sometimes and I'm just getting to grips with a new one). Sometimes I can cope - well enough to hold down fairly senior jobs for years at a time. Sometimes I can't; I spent about six months this year mostly in bed.

I've almost outed myself on Facebook several times, but have been held back from fear of it seeming like indulgent First-World narcissism.

There are some #smallthings you can do to help people you know whose mental health isn't great just now: User Posted Link - there's no need to worry about finding the right thing to say or that something you say inadvertently will be triggering or insensitive. There's no need to feel you "own" our issues or are responsible for our moods - you're not, that's our illness. Just being normal around folks like me helps.

Well, as normal as us wrathers can manage, anway :-)
