Say you gave ?100 to charity - the government used to take 28% tax, therefore meaning the charity only got ?72.
Since Gift Aid, you can now still donate the ?72, and the government will pay the tax, in effect the charity receives the ?100.
Means that you can afford to give a little more, knowing that tax won't be creamed off it.
