Re: pupils getting a day off every four years for a general election - it's an outrage

It *is* a bloody outrage. My school was used as a polling station and I never got a single freaking day off. They just coned-off the "music"[*] room, and put some signs up directing people.

Dinner ladys would then wield ladels to keep the marauding kids away at lunchtime.
